COMPUTER TIP OF THE MONTH (For Microsoft Windows)

Whats in my Computer?

By Ed Vignone

Has anyone ever asked, “How much RAM do you have?”, “How many disc drives do you have?” or “What is the Operating System?” etc. These questions generally come up when it is necessary to upgrade or repair your computer. You need to know this information before a problem occurs and you can not access your computer. Finding this “System Information” is fairly simple.

Click on Start, then All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and finally System Information. See figure 1.

After a few minutes the Figure 2 will be displayed. Then click on File then Print and save the print-out for future reference.

Text Box: Figure 2. System information Summary.

Additional useful information can be obtained by clicking on Components, then Storage and finally Drives. See Figure 3.

You can use this method to print out any and all of the System Information, however much of the other information details are usually not necessary.
