Rose Care
Garden Tip for September 2005

Submitted by David Abernathy, 23 Cantilena

Now that fall is here, we need to watch and care for our roses. The rose bushes should not be fertilized until spring. Pruning should be done in December and/or January.

Take a close look at each of your rose bushes. There is a good chance that your plants will have at least one of the following three problems:

Powdery Mildew: This is a white dust-like substance on the leaves.
Insect Damage: Unfortunately, many insects love to eat the leaves of rose bushes. If your leaves have holes in them or leaves that are partially eaten, then you have a problem.
Black Spot and Rust: Your rose leaves may be turning brown or yellow. This is an indication of this disease.
Orthenex “Garden Insect and Disease Control” will help you get rid of all of the above problems.
