GARDENING TIP OF THE MONTH

Brown Grass Spots

Most of us probably have one or more ugly brown spots in our lawns. The question is what do you do about it?

Very likely the spots are caused either by a fungus infection or under watering. To determine which is causing the problem, first deal with the under watering issue.

Turn your sprinklers on manually and look at the water pattern. Is it covering the brown spot(s) adequately? If not, then adjust the sprinkler heads to make sure the water pattern is covering the bad spots. Also, it would be helpful to hand water the affected area with a hose for a few days. If lack of water is causing the problem, then you should see a change for the better within a week of making the above adjustments.

However, if there is no change, then you most likely have a fungal problem. The procedure is to spray this area with Orthinex or Funginex. Your local nursery will most likely have these products.
