Many of us have dead spots in our grass. In some cases the grass will be invaded by wild grasses such as Bermuda. The question is how to repair this area.
These are the recommended steps to get a healthy lawn.
Treat the affected areas with Round-Up. You want to kill all the weeds and wild grasses.
Wait seven days until the Round-Up takes affect. It kills the roots of the unwanted grasses and weeds.
Scratch the surface of the area with a rake to break up the soil to a depth of ½ inch or so.
Use Scott’s tall fescue or a similar product. Hand sow the seeds onto the areas.
Use Scott’s Starter Fertilizer or equivalent.
Spread a ¼ inch layer of Kellogg’s Topper or equivalent.
Now it is time to do your special dance steps. It is important to tamp the soil by stepping on all the affected layers. So just compact the soil by tamping it with your feet.
Water the areas each day. If it is a very hot sunny day, it will require watering morning and late afternoon.
