One of the best resources for Earthquake information can be found in the free publication, “Putting Down Roots in Earthquake Country”. This 32 page pamphlet is crammed full of important information concerning the history of earthquakes in Southern California, what should be done to prepare for a quake and what should you know about quakes. The book is divided into three sections:
Section 1. Why should I care? Provides a history of quakes in Socal. Where the faults are. The shaking potential in our area. And other quake-related hazards.
Section 2. The seven steps on the road to safety.
- Identify potential hazards in your home and begin to fix them.
- Create a disaster plan for your family.
- Create disaster supply kits for the home and car.
- Identify your home’s weaknesses and begin to fix them.
- During a quake remember to drop, cover and hold on.
- After an earthquake, check for injuries and damage.
- When safe continue to follow your disaster plan.
Section 3. Earthquake Basics. Provides a description of how and why earthquakes occur. What faults are. Locating and measuring earthquakes.
